So, today the Supreme Court, you know, the judicial body that Judge Sonia Sotomayor has been nominated to serve on, saw fit to overturn her decision on the case involving white firefighters who were passed over for promotions.
As a Hispanic male, I say justice has been served.
You see, there is an assumption that is inherent when a body gives preference to a certain segment of the population because of race: Those getting preference just don’t stack up.
I personally refuse to believe that I am any better or worse than anyone else simply because my ancestors are from Mexico and yours are from Europe or Africa or South America or Mars. One of the reasons I came to my senses and stopped being a liberal was the personal offense I felt knowing that they (the liberals) assume that I need easier tests or somehow should have an easier path made for me. Why? I am not inferior to anyone regardless of skin color, yet these policies would sure seem to imply that. If I’m going to be a police officer, fire fighter, university student or barber, damnit give me the same test, and hold me to the same standard.
Judge Sotomayor, being a latina woman, doesn’t seem to hold the same opinion. Perhaps Judge Sotomayor needs to deal with her own inferiority complex.
I have been preaching this for months already, but it is more important now than ever. Â We, as conservatives MUST act now to defeat cap and trade in the senate.
I don’t care who your state’s senators are, or wheather they are conservative or liberal. Â Call them, write them, send them e-mails. Â Do anything and everything (within the law) you can to stop this. Â Remind them that they work for US and not for President Obama.
The time has come, America. Â We must fight this with everything we have, lest we let the economy sink further down the toilet.
I know, this isn’t a pop-culture/gossip blog, but there have been a few deaths this week that I feel I should at least mention.
Ed McMahon - Co-host of The Tonight Show for 30 years, I remember as a little kid what a treat it was to be able to stay up late enough to watch The Tonight show, and have many memories of Johnny’s and Ed’s antics. Â I must say I felt bad to know that he had fallen on hard times financially, and yet was amused when he and M.C. Hammer did that gold commercial together.
Farrah Fawcett - I don’t have many memories of her during my childhood, but I do remember that my mom watched Charlie’s Angels religeously. Â I have had several people close to me die of cancer. Â I know that it is a long, cruel, painful death that I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.
Michael Jackson - If you missed this you’ve been under a rock for the past several days. Â While never a huge fan of his music, you couldn’t help but notice him when I was a child. Â Despite this fact, I know the words to many of his songs. Â While I recognize his contribution to the world of music, I do not believe that the wall-to-wall coverage of his passing is necessary or even proper.
I guess, in some way, that if these deaths touch me in any way, it is in that part of my childhood has gone away. Â These people were all significant personalities during my formative years, and my memories of them are based upon that. Â May they rest in peace.
As I am sure you have noticed, I have been away for most of the month. Â I have been working on several other projects, but having gotten the ball rolling i can get back to giving this project the attention it deserves!
That said, I recognize that there are a lot of things that have happened, the most recent of which being the passing of Cap and Tax by the U.S. House.
